Don't Just Learn about Book Marketing: Develop Your Own Marketing Plan

Authors and AWC Officers Kim Conrey and George Weinstein have more than two decades of combined experience marketing and selling their fiction and nonfiction books. They want to help you to create your own marketing plan to give your book sales a jump-start or, if you're still working on your first book, get ahead of the game so you can build your platform.

Rather than just providing you with hours of lecture on various aspects of online marketing and in-person sales, Kim and George will guide you through the creation of your own plan with a template you'll complete as the workshop progresses. By the end, you'll have a path-forward for everything from platform building with newsletter and social media, to online advertising to writing a script for contacting bookstores and conducting your signings to maximize sales, and you can set in motion, as early as possible, the processes that will give you greater access to opportunities important to the success of your books.

Kim and George will cover the following topics during their 3.5-hour workshop:

- Why email newsletters are more effective than social media posts.

- How to grow an actively engaged mailing list.

- How to make the best use of your website.

- Bookbub, BookFunnel, and numerous other free marketing tools at your disposal.

- Tips about using Amazon and Facebook ads.

- Making the perfect pitch to get signings at bookstores and speaking gigs at book festivals.

- Conducting yourself at book signings and public speaking events.

Speaker Profiles

Kim Conrey is the Georgia Author of the Year recipient in the romance category for Stealing Ares (which has been downloaded more than 13,000 times), traditionally published by Black Rose Writing, which also published Losing Ares, the follow up. Her Wayward Saviors urban fantasy series includes Nicholas Eternal, published in 2023 and Nory and the Eternal Light, published in 2024. Her memoir, You’re Not a Murderer: You Just Have Harm OCD, which she co-wrote with her adult child, was released in 2023. Her short stories and essays have been published by numerous magazines and literary journals and received awards. She serves as VP of Operations for the Atlanta Writers Club and podcasts about writing with the Wild Women Who Write. She gives book marketing talks, speaks on various topics relating to writing, and does book signings at local and regional writing conferences and literary festivals. She is also the co-author, with AWC member Roger Johns, of the quarterly column “If You Only Have An Hour: Time-Saving Tips & Tricks For Managing Your Writing Career,” which appears in Page Turner, the magazine of the Georgia Writers Museum and the Atlanta Writers Club. George Weinstein is the Executive Director of the Atlanta Writers Club and has helped thousands of writers on their quest for publication through the Club and the twice-yearly Atlanta Writers Conference, which he has managed for 17 years. He also is the author of a diverse range of novels, including the beloved Southern historical novel Hardscrabble Road (which has sold over 60,000 copies and received 3,000+ reviews on Amazon and nearly 2,000 reviews on Goodreads); its sequel, Return to Hardscrabble Road; the novel of forgotten U.S. history The Five Destinies of Carlos Moreno; the domestic drama of reinvention The Caretaker; the amateur-sleuth murder mystery Aftermath, the kidnapping thriller Watch What You Say, and even a satirical sci-fi romp titled Offlining.
